How big are reptile eggs?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How big are reptile eggs?

The Big Idea

Reptile eggs come in many sizes! Tiny to big! How big are they?

Tiny to Small

Step one: Tiny to Small. The smallest reptile eggs, from tiny geckos, are about the size of a pea. Many snake eggs are about the size of a finger.

Medium to Large

Step two: Medium to Large. Sea turtle eggs look like ping-pong balls. Large crocodile eggs are bigger than a hen's egg.

More Yolk

Step three: More Yolk. A big egg has more yolk food, so the baby is bigger when it hatches. Egg size often matches how big the baby needs to be.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Pea. Finger. Ping-pong. Big as a hen's.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A bigger egg holds more yolk for the hatchling. Sea turtle eggs are like ping-pong balls. Gecko eggs are pea-sized. Crocodile eggs are big.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Line up a pea, a grape, a ping-pong ball, and a hen's egg. Guess which reptile egg matches each. Write the reptile next to each. Check your guesses with a grown-up. Wash your hands after touching the egg.

Outro

Reptile eggs range from pea-sized gecko eggs and finger-sized snake eggs to ping-pong-ball sea turtle eggs and crocodile eggs bigger than a hen's. Bigger eggs hold more yolk, so babies hatch bigger. Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! The more you look around, the more wonders you will find, so keep your eyes open!
