How does a baby turtle cut its way out of its egg?
A baby turtle has a little hard bump on the tip of its snout called a caruncle, or egg tooth. It uses the bump to slit open the shell from the inside, and then it pushes its head out. After a rest, it climbs out. A few days later, the egg tooth falls off because the baby doesn’t need it anymore. It is a tool just for hatching.
