Book 31, Question 79 · Video
Why are birds so loud at sunrise?
The burst of singing at daybreak is called the dawn chorus. Scientists have several ideas about why it happens. The air is often calm and cool at dawn, so sound carries far. It’s still too dim to hunt for insects, so birds have time to sing. A loud song at first light also lets other birds know who is nearby and that they survived the night.
