Where are a bird’s ears?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Where are a bird’s ears?

The Big Idea

Birds can hear really well. But where are their ears? You can't see them at all!

Hidden Holes

Step one: Hidden Holes. A bird's ears are small holes hidden under soft feathers. They sit a little behind and below the eyes.

No Ear Flaps

Step two: No Ear Flaps. Birds have no ear flaps like a dog or a cat. The feathers over the holes protect the openings but still let sound in.

Great Hearing

Step three: Great Hearing. Birds hear well. Many can tell very small differences in a song's pitch and rhythm.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Behind the eyes. Cover and protect. Birds have none. Heard in detail.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! A bird's ears sit a little behind and below its eyes. Special feathers cover the ears. Birds hear tiny differences in songs. Owls have super hearing.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look at a close-up photo of a bird's head. Find the eye. Look a little behind and below it for the ear patch. Now find the same spot on a friend. Whose ears are easier to see?
