Book 30, Question 107 · Video
Why does a swimming pool smell like chlorine?
Surprisingly, the strong "pool smell" doesn't come from fresh chlorine. It comes from chloramines, which form when chlorine meets sweat, oils, and other things swimmers bring in. A pool that smells very strong actually needs more care. Showering before swimming and using the bathroom first helps keep pools cleaner. A well-kept pool should have only a faint smell.
