How does backspin help a ball stay in the air?
When a ball spins backward, the top of the ball moves against the oncoming air, and the bottom moves with it. The air flows differently around the two sides, creating more pressure below and less above. That pushes the ball upward, a bit like a tiny wing. This is called the Magnus effect.
