How does maple syrup turn into maple sugar?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How does maple syrup turn into maple sugar?

The Big Idea

Sweet maple syrup comes from trees! And it can turn into maple sugar. Let's find out how.

Sap

Step one: Sap. Maple trees give sap that is mostly water. Syrup makers boil it down until it is thick, taking about forty buckets of sap for one of syrup.

Maple Sugar

Step two: Maple Sugar. If the syrup is heated more and stirred, the sugar starts forming tiny crystals. That makes maple sugar or soft maple butter.

Canada

Step three: Canada. Canada makes most of the world's maple syrup. Quebec makes the most of all.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Trees give sap. Sap is watery. Boiling makes syrup. More makes sugar.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Maple sugaring happens in late winter when days warm up and nights freeze. Forty buckets for one. Boiling is for grown-ups. Quebec makes the most.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look at a bottle of maple syrup. Look at a piece of maple candy. Use a magnifier on each. Which has crystals? Why do you think so?

Outro

Maple syrup is made by boiling down watery maple sap, about forty buckets for one of syrup. Heating and stirring it more forms tiny crystals, making maple sugar. Canada makes most of the world's syrup! Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! The more you look around, the more wonders you will find, so keep your eyes open!
