Who invented the flashlight?
The flashlight became possible after small batteries and bulbs were invented in the 1890s. The first ones were called electric hand torches. They were often cardboard tubes with a small bulb and short-lived batteries. They made only short flashes, which is where the name flashlight came from. Today, LEDs and better batteries make flashlights bright and long-lasting.

Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Who invented the flashlight?
The Big Idea
Click! A flashlight lights up the dark. But early flashlights couldn't stay on long. That's how they got their name!
Batteries
Step one: Batteries. The flashlight became possible after small batteries and bulbs were invented in the 1890s. The first ones were called electric hand torches.
Cardboard Tubes
Step two: Cardboard Tubes. They were often cardboard tubes with a small bulb and short-lived batteries. They made only short flashes, which is where the name flashlight came from.
Today
Step three: Today. Today, LEDs and better batteries make flashlights bright and long-lasting. They help in power outages and camping trips.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! The battery stores power. The switch closes the circuit. The bulb glows. The reflector aims light.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! Early flashlight batteries had to be rested between uses. In Britain, flashlights are still called torches. LEDs last longer. Great for camping.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! With a grown-up, use a small battery, bulb, and holder kit. Connect them to make the bulb light. Make a simple flashlight. Draw a circuit diagram. Label each part.
