Book 26, Question 64
Who invented the flashlight?
The first ones were called electric hand torches.
The flashlight became possible after small batteries and bulbs were invented in the 1890s. They were often cardboard tubes with a small bulb and short-lived batteries. They made only short flashes, which is where the name flashlight came from. Today, LEDs and better batteries make flashlights bright and long-lasting.
