What makes a skyscraper green?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What makes a skyscraper green?

The Big Idea

Some skyscrapers are called green buildings. They are not painted green! They are designed to save energy and water.

Smart Windows

Step one: Smart Windows. A green skyscraper might have special windows that block heat. Sunshades help too.

Sensors

Step two: Sensors. Sensors turn off lights when no one is in a room. That saves a lot of electricity, especially at night and on weekends.

Rain and Sun

Step three: Rain and Sun. Some collect rainwater to flush toilets and water plants. Rooftop solar panels and gardens help, too. These ideas save money and are kinder to the environment.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Special glass blocks heat. Sensors save light. Rainwater gets reused. Solar panels make power.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Rooftop gardens can keep a building cooler. Bike racks encourage people to ride instead of drive. Green ideas save money. Some roofs have beehives.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Think about how your school uses energy. Make a list of three things it could do to use less. Think about lights, windows, and water. Share your list with your teacher. Which idea is easiest to try?

Outro

A green skyscraper is designed to use less energy and water, with heat-blocking windows, light sensors, rainwater collection, solar panels, and rooftop gardens. Science is amazing!
