The Big Idea
Some airplanes are truly huge. One carries hundreds of people on two decks. Another has wings longer than a football field!
Biggest Passenger Plane
Step one: the biggest passenger plane. The Airbus A380 is the biggest passenger plane, with two full decks. It has room for hundreds of people.
Longest Wings
Step two: the longest wings. A giant plane called Roc, built to launch rockets, has the longest wingspan ever. It is about three hundred eighty-five feet, longer than a football field with its end zones.
Famous Wooden Giant
Step three: a famous wooden giant. The Spruce Goose, a wooden flying boat, flew just once in nineteen forty-seven. Big planes need big runways and lots of care.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! The A380 has two decks. Roc has huge wings. The Spruce Goose was wooden. Giants need long runways.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! The A380 can carry hundreds of people. Roc wings span about three hundred eighty-five feet. Roc has two bodies joined by one huge wing. The Spruce Goose flew once in nineteen forty-seven.
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Go outside with a grown-up and measure three hundred eighty-five feet with your steps. Count carefully as you walk. Compare that distance to a football field. Which feels longer? Write down what you notice, and share it with a friend.
Outro
The biggest planes include the two-deck A380, Roc with record-long wings, and the wooden Spruce Goose that flew just once, and all of them need huge runways and careful care. Science is amazing! Keep asking questions! There is always more to discover, and you are a great science explorer! Thank you for exploring with me, and remember that every great scientist started with a question about flying. Keep looking up! Keep learning together!
