What Does “Leave No Trace” Mean?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. What does “leave no trace” mean?

The Big Idea

Leave no trace means visiting nature without leaving signs that you were there. It helps the outdoors stay wild and beautiful for animals, plants, and the next visitors. Here are the main ideas.

Pack It Out

Step one: pack out all trash. That includes food scraps, like apple cores and peels, because they do not break down quickly in the cold. If you carry it in, carry it out.

Stay on Trails

Step two: stay on trails and leave things as they are. Do not pick flowers, and leave rocks and shells where you found them. Others can then enjoy them, too, just as you did.

Keep Wildlife Wild

Step three: keep wildlife wild. Do not feed animals, because human food is not good for them, and it can make them lose their fear of people. Leave places as good as you found them, or better, for the next visitors.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at leaving no trace! Pack out every bit of trash. Stay on the trail. Leave flowers and rocks where they are. And never feed wildlife.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! An apple core can take months to break down in cold mountains. Litter can hurt animals and spoil views. Small choices add up when many visitors come. The goal is to leave places as good as you found them.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Make a small leave no trace kit. Include a bag for litter, a pencil, and a notebook. Use it on your next outing with a grown-up. Write what you noticed.
