Intro

Hey there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do we get hungry so often?

The Big Idea

Have you ever been hungry again, just a short time after you ate? Kids burn energy on moving, learning, and growing, so they need fuel all day long. A growing engine needs fuel! Hunger is a helpful signal, and it is nothing to worry about.

Your Tank Drops

Step one: your fuel tank drops. Running, thinking, breathing, and growing all use up energy. So after a while, the fuel from your last meal starts to run low. Kids are growing, so their bodies use fuel quickly.

Stomach Tells Brain

Step two: your stomach and brain send signals. When your stomach is empty, it helps send a message to your brain. Some body chemicals carry messages, too. Your brain gets the news that fuel is low. Hormones are chemical messengers, and some of them help tell your brain that your stomach is empty.

Food Refills the Tank

Step three: you feel hungry, and food refills the tank. Your brain makes the hungry feeling to tell you: time to refuel! When you eat, your body turns food into energy, your tank fills up, and the hunger fades.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at a hunger signal! The stomach notices that it is empty. A message zips along to the brain. And the brain makes you feel hungry!

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Regular meals beat one giant feast. Small, steady refuels keep your energy steady. Your brain needs a steady supply of fuel, too. Drinking water is important, since you can mix up thirst with hunger.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Notice hunger before lunch and after a long game. Think about how you feel before lunch. Think about how you feel after a long game outside. What is different about your hunger? Why do you think that is?

Outro

Hunger is just your body telling you it needs fuel. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
