Which River Secrets Can Nobody Explain Yet?

What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Which river secrets can nobody explain yet?

The Big Idea

Rivers still hold many secrets that nobody can explain yet! Scientists are still asking big questions about how rivers work, and some answers may take years. The next great discovery could be yours.

Long Journeys

Step one: long journeys. How do eels and salmon find their way across such long distances? Scientists have clues, like Earth's magnetic field and smells in the water, but not every answer.

A Changing World

Step two: change. How does a river change in a warming world? And where do all the tiny plastic pieces end up? Scientists are working to find out.

Hidden Rivers

Step three: hidden rivers. What lives in underground rivers and cave streams, where no sunlight ever shines? Scientists keep finding new species in rivers every year.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! How do eels and salmon find their way? How will rivers change as the world warms? Where does tiny plastic end up? And what lives in cave streams?

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Scientists keep finding new species in rivers every year. Many of them are tiny, shy, or hidden, so they are hard to find. There are always more questions than answers, and that is what makes science exciting. Explore with a grown-up and stay safe.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Write your best river question on a sheet of paper. Think how you could investigate it safely with a grown-up. Make a plan with steps, like a real river scientist. Then try it out and share what you discover!
