Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. How do so many animals share one rainforest without crowding each other out?

The Big Idea

Each kind of animal has its own job, food, and place to live. Scientists call this a niche. One bird eats fruit in the canopy while another snaps up insects on the forest floor. By sharing, they avoid crowding each other out.

Different Foods

Step one: different foods. Some animals eat fruit, some eat insects, and some sip nectar from flowers. Even similar-looking birds may eat very different foods.

Different Heights

Step two: different heights. Eagles perch near the top, monkeys play in the canopy, and frogs live near the ground. Each layer is like a different floor.

Different Times

Step three: different times. Some animals are active in the day, like toucans, and others at night, like owls and bats. So they use the same forest at different hours and don't bump into each other.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at sharing! Animals eat different foods. They live on different floors of the forest. They are active at different times of day. Together, that gives each animal its own niche, and everyone fits.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Two similar-looking birds may eat very different foods. A niche is an animal's job, food, and home. Sharing means less competition. Draw it with a grown-up and some paper.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Make a chart of a rainforest apartment building with four floors. Write which animals live on each floor. Then write what they eat. Show your chart to a grown-up.

Outro

Every rainforest animal has its own special place. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
