Intro
Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why can a robot get out of a maze by always turning left?
The Big Idea
A robot can get out of a maze by always turning left because it follows one simple wall rule! It keeps one side touching the wall as it moves. That path leads along the walls, all the way to the exit.
Pick a Wall
Step one: pick a wall. The robot chooses its left side and keeps it next to the wall. It never lets go of that wall.
Follow Every Turn
Step two: follow every turn. When the wall bends or hits a dead end, the robot follows it around. Along the way it visits every corridor that touches those walls.
Find the Exit
Step three: find the exit. If the walls are all connected, the path along them reaches the exit. The robot does not need a map or any big thinking.
A Closer Look
Let's take a closer look! In a maze, the walls link together. The robot slides along the left wall. It follows the wall right to the exit. But if the goal sits on a wall island, the rule fails.
Quick Facts
Quick facts! It is a simple rule that works without thinking about the whole maze. It works because all the walls are connected to each other. The trick fails if the goal is on an island of walls. Trace paper mazes with a finger, and have fun!
Think Like a Scientist
Now, think like a scientist! Draw a maze on paper. Put your finger at the entrance and always keep your left hand on the left wall. Do you reach the exit? Then draw a different maze where this rule would fail.

A simple wall-following rule can solve many mazes. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
