What Crafty Clover says in this video

Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do captions on videos help lots of people?

The Big Idea

Captions on videos help lots of people because they show the words on screen! They help people who are Deaf or hard of hearing follow along. They help many other people too.

Words On Screen

Step one: words on screen. Captions show the words of a video as text. They can also describe important sounds, like a door slam or music.

Deaf Or Hard Of Hearing

Step two: following along. People who are Deaf or hard of hearing use captions to follow what is said. That makes videos fair for everyone.

Many Helpers

Step three: many helpers. Captions help in noisy places, in quiet places when sound is off, and for people learning a new language. Many people find that reading along helps them understand and remember more.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! First, a video plays with sound. The words appear on screen. People who are Deaf or hard of hearing can follow. Others in noisy or quiet places benefit too. Captions are for everyone.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Quick facts about captions. Captions are for everyone, not only some people. They help in loud places like buses and cafes. They help learners practice reading and a new language. Look for the CC button.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Watch one minute of a show with the sound off and captions on. How much can you follow? Then try with captions off. What did you notice about faces, actions, and words? Share what you discover with a grown-up.
