Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do some people have trouble telling red from green?

The Big Idea

Some people have trouble telling red from green because the color cells in their eyes work a little differently. They were born that way, and it does not hurt. It is just a different way of seeing color.

Color Cells

Step one: color cells. The back of your eye has cells called cones that detect color. Most people have three kinds, which help them see reds, greens, and blues.

A Little Different

Step two: a little different. In some people, the red or green cones work a bit differently from most. So reds, greens, and browns can look similar to them.

Born This Way

Step three: born this way. Many people inherit it from their families, and it is more common in boys than in girls. It does not hurt, and people with it do all kinds of great things.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look at color vision! Cone cells catch different colors of light. Some cones are best for reds. Some cones are best for greens. And your brain mixes their signals to make colors.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Color vision is not the same for everyone. Kids with this difference just see colors their own way, and they can do anything. Signs, maps, and games can use shapes, words, and patterns, so everyone can read them. If you wonder about your own color vision, ask a grown-up about an eye check.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! Look for signs or maps around you that use shapes and words, not just colors. Notice how they help everyone read them. Then design a game with labels as well as colors!

Outro

People see color in different ways, and that is okay. Science is amazing! Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
