Intro

Hi there, curious minds! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do cuts stop bleeding with clots?

The Big Idea

Cuts stop bleeding because your blood can make a plug called a clot! Tiny helpers in your blood rush to the spot and build it. Then a scab shields the area while repair crews work underneath.

Platelets Rush In

Step one: platelets rush in. Platelets are tiny, sticky pieces of cells in your blood, and there are millions of them. When a vessel is cut, they gather at the spot and stick together like a little patch.

A Clot Forms

Step two: a clot forms. Special clotting proteins weave a net of fibers, which traps blood cells and makes a strong plug. The plug stops the bleeding.

A Scab Shields

Step three: a scab shields. The clot dries into a hard scab that covers the cut like a tiny bandage. Underneath, new skin cells grow, and when the skin is ready, the scab falls off by itself.

A Closer Look

Let's take a closer look! Platelets gather at the cut. Clotting proteins weave a net. The bleeding stops. And a scab protects while the skin heals.

Quick Facts

Quick facts! It is best to let a scab fall off by itself, even if it feels itchy. Picking can cause bleeding and slow healing. Small cuts need a grown-up to help clean and cover them. If a cut is deep or will not stop bleeding, get a grown-up right away.

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! If you ever get a scrape, tell a grown-up and let them help. Watch the healing over the next days without picking. Notice how your body fixes itself!
