Intro

Hi! I'm Crafty Clover! Let's discover something amazing. Why do we sweat?

The Big Idea

Phew! After running around on a hot day, your skin gets wet with sweat. Sweat might feel sticky, but it's your body's natural cooling system! Let's learn something cool today, in three steps!

Cooling System

Step one: meet your cooling system! When your body gets hot, from exercise, or a sunny day, Your brain signals tiny sweat glands in your skin, And sweat comes out onto your skin.

Evaporates

Step two: water evaporates, and takes heat away! The sweat on your skin turns from liquid water into water vapor. To do that, it needs energy, so it grabs heat from your skin. As it evaporates, it carries that heat away from your body!

Breeze Helps

Step three: a breeze helps! Moving air, like a breeze or a fan, sweeps the water vapor away. That helps sweat evaporate faster, So you cool down more quickly. Ahh!

A Closer Look

Let's look inside your skin! This coiled tube is a sweat gland. It makes sweat. Sweat travels up a tiny tube, called a duct, to the skin. It reaches the surface, and evaporates, taking heat with it. This natural process helps keep your body temperature just right!

Quick Facts

Quick facts! Your skin has about 2 to 4 million sweat glands! They work hard every day to help keep you cool. Sweat is mostly water, with a little salt. That's why it tastes salty! Dogs barely sweat. They cool off by panting instead. So drink water, to refill what you sweat out!

Think Like a Scientist

Now, think like a scientist! After running around, stand in a tiny breeze. What do you notice about how you feel? Why do you think that is? What's your hypothesis? That's a scientist's best guess!

Outro

So sweat is your body's own air conditioner, keeping you cool when things heat up! Remember, Crafty Clover can be found on Amazon Books, Google Bookstore, and Apple Books. Available for purchase or download! Bye for now!
