Why Do Rockets Rise Slowly at First and Then Speed Up?
Rockets rise slowly at first because they are very heavy when they are full of fuel! At liftoff, a rocket's engines barely beat gravity. As fuel burns away, the rocket gets lighter, and the same push makes it speed up faster.
