Plates on Its Back? Why Did Stegosaurus Have Them?
Stegosaurus had a row of big bony plates along its back and spikes on its tail. Scientists think the plates may have been for display, helping animals recognize each other, and maybe they helped with body temperature too. The tail spikes were probably useful for defense. Nobody knows for sure, so scientists keep testing their ideas.
