Book 33, Question 110
Why do primates have such long childhoods?
Primates have big, complex brains, and there is a lot to learn.
Young monkeys and apes spend years with their mothers, learning what to eat, how to climb, and how to get along with others. A longer childhood means more time to learn. A chimpanzee stays with its mother for years, and people take even longer.
