Book 33, Question 77
Why do cats walk on their toes with their claws tucked in?
A cat’s claws can slide into a sheath of skin and pop out when needed.
Keeping the claws tucked in protects them from wear, so they stay sharp. It also makes cats quiet walkers, because their claws don’t click on the floor. Cats walk on their toes with soft pads under them, which gives them stealth and bounce. When a cat wants to climb, out come the claws.
