Book 33, Question 76
Why do horses walk on their tiptoes?
A horse walks on one toe on each foot, and its hoof is like a giant toenail.
Its leg bones are long and its muscles are near the top, so each step is long and light. What looks like a horse’s knee is really its wrist. Standing on tiptoe lets a horse run fast and cover lots of ground. It’s a body built for speed.
