Book 33, Question 47
What is a mother’s tongue doing when she washes her newborn?
A newborn needs a gentle cleaning, and a mother’s tongue is the perfect tool.
Licking dries the baby and warms it. It also helps the baby start breathing and get its body working. Licking helps mother and baby learn each other’s smell so they can find each other later. It’s both a bath and a hug.
