Book 31, Question 139
Why does a baby robin look so different from its parents?
Young birds often look a little different from adults.
A young robin has a spotted chest instead of an orange one. A young gull may be brown and speckled for a few years. Young birds can also have shorter tails, fuzzier feathers, and a yellow edge around the beak. Watching for these differences can explain why two birds of the same kind look unlike each other.
