Book 31, Question 96

How do scientists record bird songs?

Scientists use sensitive microphones and sometimes a big dish called a parabolic reflector to collect faint sounds from far away.

They often go out at dawn when birds are most active. Recorders are labeled with the date, place, and bird. Many recordings are stored in huge online libraries, where anyone can listen. Researchers study them to learn how songs change over time.
