Book 31, Question 39
How do birds use their beaks like hands?
A bird cannot grip with fingers, so its beak does a lot of jobs.
It picks up twigs, carries food, and straightens feathers. Parrots use their beaks as an extra foot while climbing. Parents use their beaks to feed chicks, and crows can even use sticks as tools. The beak is light, strong, and handy, and it is packed with nerves that help sense what it holds.
