Book 31, Question 18
What is a bird’s wishbone for?
The wishbone is a V-shaped bone at the top of a bird’s chest, made from two collarbones that joined together.
When the wings flap, the wishbone bends in and springs back like a flexible spring, which helps the bird push air with less effort. It also holds the shoulders apart so the wings can move freely. Most birds have one.
