Book 31, Question 6

Why do some birds take dust baths?

Birds like sparrows, quail, and chickens splash in loose, dry dirt and flap it into their feathers.

The dust soaks up extra oil and helps shake loose tiny pests that live in feathers. After a dust bath, the bird stands up, fluffs, and shakes everything off, leaving its feathers clean and fluffy. It is a spa day with no water.
