Can soap show how hard your water is?
Yes.
Put equal amounts of water in two clear bottles: tap water in one and distilled water, which is very soft, in the other. Add a few drops of liquid soap to each, cap, and shake. Soft water makes tall suds quickly, and hard water makes fewer suds and a cloudy look. This shows how minerals in water change the way soap works.
