Book 30, Question 86
Why does tap water taste different in different places?
Water picks up tastes from what's in it.
Minerals like calcium and magnesium can give a slightly chalky or sweet taste. A little chlorine, used to keep water safe, can add a pool-like smell. Temperature matters, too, as cold water tastes fresher. Pipes in a home can add a taste. These flavors are usually not harmful, but only a test can tell.
