Book 30, Question 78

Why does one house have its own well while another is on city pipes?

In towns, a big water system treats lake or river water and sends it through pipes to many homes.

In the country, a house may be too far from pipes, so a drilled well taps water stored underground in soil and rock. Well owners test the water regularly. Neither source is better in every way. Each needs care to keep the water clean.
