Book 30, Question 66

How do underwater plants help the pond breathe?

Underwater plants make food from sunlight in a process called photosynthesis, and they release oxygen into the water.

On a sunny day, you can sometimes see tiny bubbles rising from the leaves. Fish and insects use that oxygen. At night, plants use some oxygen too, which is why too many plants can sometimes leave ponds low on oxygen before morning.
