Book 30, Question 44
What can you learn from animal tracks around a pond in snow?
Fresh snow is like a notebook.
Deer leave split-hoof prints, raccoons leave small handlike prints, and foxes leave neat lines of dog-like tracks. Otters and minks leave bounding patterns, and sometimes long slides. Birds make tiny three-toed prints. Tracks show who visited, which way they went, and whether they were walking or running. A field guide helps identify them.
