Book 30, Question 43
Why do some ponds dry up in late summer?
Ponds are shallow, so the Sun and wind can evaporate their water quickly.
If little rain falls, the water going out is more than the water coming in, and the pond shrinks. Mud cracks and plants grow where water used to be. Animals that live in these ponds have ways to cope: some bury in mud, some fly away, and some lay eggs that wait for rain.
