What questions would a lake detective ask first?
Start with the basics: How big and deep is it?
Where does the water come from and go? What color and how clear is it? What plants and animals live there? Who uses the lake, and for what? What is the shoreline like? Writing answers in a notebook builds a picture of the lake's character, just like meeting a new friend.
