Book 30, Question 6
Which lake is the deepest in the world?
It sits in a rift where Earth's crust is slowly pulling apart, which makes it very deep and very old.
Lake Baikal in Russia is the deepest lake, reaching about 1,640 meters, or over a mile. It holds about one-fifth of all the unfrozen fresh water on the surface of Earth. Lakes made by moving crust are called tectonic lakes.
