Book 29, Question 70
Why do gardeners plant flowers among their vegetables?
Flowers attract bees to pollinate squash and tomatoes, and bring in predators like ladybugs and hoverflies that eat pests.
Some flowers act as trap crops: nasturtiums attract aphids away from vegetables. A mix of flowers and vegetables also looks lovely and confuses pests that look for rows of their favorite food. More variety makes a stronger garden.
