Book 29, Question 57

How can gardeners protect plants without harsh chemicals?

Gardeners can pick off pests by hand, cover plants with light netting called row cover, and put collars around seedlings.

Planting a mix of crops makes it harder for pests to find their favorites. Attracting predators like birds and ladybugs also helps. Adults may use gentle sprays such as soapy water. Strong chemicals can hurt helpful insects and pollinators too.
