Book 29, Question 7
What is a plant hardiness zone?
A hardiness zone is a map area where winter lows and growing seasons are similar.
Canada has a zone map from 0, the coldest, to 9, the mildest. Gardeners use it to choose plants that can survive winter where they live. A plant labeled zone 5 should survive in zone 5 or warmer. Parts of southern Ontario are around zones 5 to 7, while the far north is much colder.
