Book 28, Question 41
How does a snowboard carve a turn?
A snowboard has curved sides, called a sidecut, and a sharp metal edge.
When the rider tilts the board onto an edge, it cuts into the snow and follows its curve, making a carved turn. Tilting more makes a tighter turn. A flat board would skid and slide. The edge bites like a skate's blade, which gives control on slopes.
