Book 27, Question 41

What makes a growing crystal stop?

A crystal stops growing when there is nothing left to add.

The liquid may run out of dissolved material, the temperature may change, or the crystal may bump into the wall or another crystal. Sometimes changing conditions even dissolve part of the crystal. When the crystal is finished, it holds a record of the conditions in which it grew.
