Book 27, Question 20
Is "crystal" glassware real crystal?
Not in the science sense.
Fancy glassware is usually called crystal because it is clearer and sparkles more than ordinary glass. But it is still glass, with atoms in a jumbled pattern. Traditional lead crystal had lead added, which makes glass heavier and more brilliant. Many people today use lead-free versions. Real crystals like quartz have an orderly lattice.
