Book 27, Question 19
Are crystals alive?
No.
Crystals don't eat, breathe, or have cells. They grow because new atoms or molecules attach to the outside in the same pattern, which is a physical process, not a living one. A crystal can stop growing if the liquid runs out. It doesn't reproduce or respond like a living thing. But watching crystals grow can look almost like watching a plant.
