Book 26, Question 118

Why do some inventors share their designs for free?

Open-source means the plans for something are shared so anyone can use, copy, or improve them.

Computer programs, small electronics boards, and some tools have been developed this way. Many people join in, find mistakes, and add new features. Sharing can make ideas spread faster than keeping them secret. Others choose to patent their inventions to earn money from them.
