Book 26, Question 105

How do crash test dummies help make cars safer?

Crash test dummies are human-shaped models filled with sensors.

In a lab, a car is driven into a wall while high-speed cameras record. The sensors measure how hard the head, chest, and legs would be pushed. Engineers use the data to improve seat belts, airbags, and the car's frame. There are dummies in many sizes, including children's, to help protect everyone.
