Book 26, Question 94
Why did early electric cars lose to gasoline cars?
They were quiet, clean, and easy to start.
About 1900, many cars were electric. But batteries were heavy and did not take cars very far, and few places had electricity to charge them. Gasoline cars could go farther, fill up fast, and the Ford Model T made them cheaper. In 1912, the electric starter ended the hard crank for gasoline cars. Today better batteries are bringing electric cars back.
