Why did Betamax lose to VHS?
Sony's Betamax had good picture quality, but its tapes held only about one hour at first.
In the 1970s, two video tape formats competed. VHS tapes were bigger and could record longer shows and whole movies. More companies also made VHS machines, so stores stocked more tapes. People chose the format that was more convenient, and VHS won.
